Touring Israel Part Stein (2)

November 30, 2014

View fullsize Catholic church built over the site of a Byzantine one, near the garden of Gethsemane.
View fullsize A couple of Californians
View fullsize Detail of one of the columns at the church in Gethsemane. Corinthian style I believe.
View fullsize Interior view of the church, near the altar. It blows my mind to think of people on tall ladders painting & laying mosaics on the ceiling.
View fullsize Some of our group decided not to go inside & instead to take in the beautiful view from the church's steps. It was interesting to listen (eavesdrop) to them explain what happened in that area so many years ago & contemplate how much those ev
View fullsize We traveled to the city of Petah Tikvah. We were very honored to have the mayor, Itzik Braverman, present to greet us.
View fullsize The mayor was not the only one there to greet us. Israeli veterans were present to bring the rich history of the city & the country to life.
View fullsize This lady right here. Goodness gracious look at all those medals on her lapel! I would LOVE to hear her story!
View fullsize A trio of musicians were there when we arrived & played for us.
View fullsize This man made me cry. He is so talented with the clarinet.
View fullsize Another of the performers for the day. He sang a few  numbers in different outfits. He was so adorable & he pulled through the song faithfully although the sound system was flawed & somehow changed the tempo to his musical accompaniment
View fullsize This lady danced for us in the rich Bukhari style. This all went to show how diverse the population in Petah Tikvah & Israel is.
View fullsize The dancer was accompanied by these two men who sang & created the beat for the lady. This is Shlomo discreetly putting an end to the long song.
View fullsize Here is Shlomo, the leader of the tour, expressing what we all wanted to do to this adorable boy after his last song. Definitely The Voice material.
View fullsize Pastor Efraim Valverde III from California was given the chance to express our gratitude for the wonderful program & our support for the state of Israel.
View fullsize Pastor Patti Mariano from the USA led us in song. She is a wonderful, strong woman.
View fullsize Fierce sculpture in the museum in Petah Tikvah
View fullsize Two lovely ladies from our group.
View fullsize For lunch, the entire group was seated in a large reception hall near a Jewish Ethiopian Community. The chief rabbi among others were invited to eat with us.
View fullsize Russian ladies.
View fullsize A couple from Texas
View fullsize Mother and son from Brazil. She is a pastor out there & he was the Portuguese translator during the tour.
View fullsize Ladies from California
View fullsize Pastor Efraim Valverde III from California & Stanislav Pavlov from Russia.
View fullsize A platter of the most delicious rice topped with nuts from the third course.
View fullsize After eating so much, this man from California was doing what everyone else wanted to do: take a nap.
View fullsize Cream puffs with Turkish coffee was served to top it all off.
View fullsize My father (left) posing with Knesset member Robert Ilatov, who also graciously joined us for lunch & Pastor Stanislav.
View fullsize More posing with the Knesset member.
View fullsize Shlomo was very happy with all the guests. Here, he speaks with the coordinator of the hall.
View fullsize Here we have ladies from the U.S. & London.
View fullsize A lady from Switzerland was happy to yodel for us while we mingled after the meal.
View fullsize A couple of Shlomo's Israeli friends also joined us.
View fullsize After the meal, we packed into our buses & drove to the Ethiopian synagogue when we were able to catch the evening prayer festivities.
View fullsize I learned that Shlomo contributed much to the construction of this synagogue. Their appreciation was deeply felt & transcended the language barrier.
View fullsize After the evening prayers, the women brought in many things that we could munch on; fruit, nuts, bread & drinks. Here the rabbi is saying the blessing over the bread.
